Phoenix, Arizona based artist Brian Chartrand has been busy! This prolific singer/songwriter has released three albums in 2008: his latest solo-acoustic effort, "Sleeping With Giants," "the Show Low sessions" by his rootsy trio Ten Dollar Outfit, and "Laurel & Sunset" by RGB, the trans-continental, harmony-driven collaboration between Brian, Rich Price, and Greg Naughton.
"Sleeping With Giants" was released in February 2007. Brian was very involved in every step of the creation of this cd; from writing the original songs, to performing all the instruments, to designing the cover art. This album portrays a very introspective side of Brian’s songwriting and juxtaposes feelings of loss and vulnerability with warm, orchestral string arrangements and soothing acoustic guitars.
"the Show Low sessions" was released in July 2008 by Brian’s band Ten Dollar Outfit. Basic tracks for this trio’s second studio release were recorded in a small cabin in the woods in Show Low, Arizona in 2007. These songs range from horn-driven funk to quiet acoustic ballads. This album hints at Brian’s rock-n-roll sensibilities (he plays electric guitar on a number of tracks) and taste for percussion and rhythm.
"Laurel & Sunset" is the debut album from Brian’s extremely unconventional songwriting project: RGB. RGB is a collaboration between Rich Price, Greg Naughton, and Brian who all contribute their unique talents to this project. These songs highlight each members’ distinct songwriting, guitar playing, and voice which blend to create a sound that harkens back to the LA folk tradition of the 60’s and 70’s.
