A straight up, balls-out, unapologetic ROCK & ROLL band is the best way to describe The Speaks, whose five members hail from the Washington DC area. The band's anthemic tunes and sheer energy have earned them a rabid and loyal fan-base (180k myspace profile views) that packs the house wherever they go. From over a million hits on youtube, to winning every major music competition they’ve entered, to rocking crowds of 25,000+ people, and gaining major support from DC101 (one of the most influential radio stations in the country), The Speaks have become a staple of the DC metro area and an overseas sensation in Asia.
Starting with their radio debut in May 2003, their undeniable talent and hard working mentality has helped them extend their reach to a global scale. In 2005 The Speaks signed a deal with Warner Music (Asia) with the “Life’s A Joke” album release in the Philippines. As a direct result, their second single off the album, “High” has received an unprecedented amount of airplay worldwide, reached #1 for over 2 months on the longest running radio chart in Asia, as well as the music video gaining regular rotation on MTV Asia, MYX, and several other music video channels. To date, The Speaks are gearing up for another round of hits with their new EP – “This is the Time” which will be distributed by Universal/MCA Philippines in Asia and independently in the US and Europe. From pure adrenaline-driven rock, to soulful and piercing rock ballads, The Speaks will take you through a roller-coaster range of emotions with their catchy, hook-filled, Generation-Z anthems as they continue to rack up numerous achievements. The Speaks have headlined and sold out such places like the infamous 930 club in Washington DC among other international venues and have performed with the likes of Chevelle, Switchfoot, SR-71, Jimmy Eat World, the Roots, Live, Blues Travelers and the list goes on. The Speaks – with several members who are all American born, but of Filipino heritage – are poised to further prove that music is, indeed, the one true “universal language”.
